This photo shows the Beelitz-Heilstatten Hospital. It was built in the late 1800s and even helped Adolf Hitler when his leg was injured in 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.
Today, some parts of the complex are still open to the public. However, most of its wings (like the one above!) were abandoned after the Soviets retired in 1995. Today, it is mostly abandoned and does not see patients.
These houses look like something out of a science fiction movie, maybe that’s why they weren’t as popular as anticipated! They were designed to be vacation homes, with U.S. military in mind.
The place was loaded with bad luck, including the loss of investments and an unusual number of car accidents. Interest in the development was lost and the site was closed in 1980. San Zhi was a popular place for trekking until the buildings were demolished in 2010.
